摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for switching a virtual path(VP) by arranging an APS part, with which the switching of the VP is controlled by exchanging switching information with confronted equipment, outside an ATM switch in a protection block. SOLUTION: When any fault occurs at the intermediate point of the protection block, a VP handler VPH-j on the next stage detects the fault and sends a switching trigger cell to a VP handler VPH-b at the terminal point of the protection block. The same VP value as an active VP is imported to the switching trigger cell received by a transmission line INF board 4 of the VP handler VPH-b. The switching trigger cell is routed through the ATM switch to a transmission line INF board 6. An HCV part for rewriting at the time of VP switching and the APS part are arranged on the same base and VP switching processing closed by a microprocessor is realized. A time for communication with a central control processor is reduced and the time required for VP switching, namely, a fault recovery time is shortened.
