SOLUTION: The fuel in a fuel storage container 100 is sucked by a pre- conveyance pump 110 through a filter 115, compressed by a high-pressure pump 125 from a low pressure to a high pressure to form the high pressure in a rail (reservoir) 130, and metered and fed to individual cylinders via injectors 131. When no fuel is injected by an engine brake action, for example, a controller 160 closes a pressure control valve 135 with the control signal A obtained by processing the signals of various sensors 165. The pressure signal P detected by a sensor 140 at this time is differentiated to calculate the change AP of the pressure of the rail 130, and whether the change AP is smaller than the selected maximum value PMA or not is detected. When the pressure of the rail 130 is lowered faster than expected, it is identified as an error (leakage).
