摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and apparatus capable of easily calculating the BOD(biochemical oxygen demand) of water to be examined within a short time with high reliability. SOLUTION: In this measuring method a process for allowing aerobic microorganisms to live only for a certain time while monitoring the oxygen concentration of water W to be examined and a process aerating water W to be examined are repeated to calculate the change state with the elapse of time of the integrated value of consumed oxygen quantity by aerobic microorganisms and, from the result of this calculated state, the estimated value of the sum total consumed oxygen quantity at a point when a living time is extended is calculated as BOD. A measuring apparatus has a dissolved oxygen concentration measuring device monitoring the oxygen concentration of the water W, an aeration mechanism supplying air to the water W and a processing mechanism calculating the estimated value of the sum total consumed oxygen quantity at a point of time when the living time is extended as BOD from the change state with the elapse of time of the integrated value of consumed oxygen quantity by biological microorganisms added to the water W.
