PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal gasket that prevents any plastic deformation of its own and of mounting members and ensures or maintains good sealing performance between them. SOLUTION: A metal gasket 1 is for installation between two opposed mounting members (a cylinder head 71 and a cylinder block 72), so that gasket plates 11 and 12 are sandwiched between the mounting members. The gasket 1 has a gasket hole 10 through which those mounting members communicate with each other. About the gasket hole 10, a diametrally expanded part 3 is formed opening on the gasket hole 10 and having a pair of tongues 31 and 32 splayed across the thickness of the metal gasket 1. About the diametrally expanded part 3, a core 5 lies to prevent plastic deformation of the diametrally expanded part 3.
