PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a male screw and a female adapted to screw each other that are constructed to endure high-speed rotations and low-speed heavy loads. SOLUTION: A male screw 1 has in its thread face 2 a plurality of discontinuous depressions 3, which work as lubricating oil sumps when the male screw 1 screws a female screw 8. High-speed rotations force lubricating oil out of the depressions 3 into the gap defined between the male and female screws 1 and 8 to provide a wedge film effect that causes a local high pressure to form a highly loading capability oil film. Low-speed heavy loads force lubricating oil out of the depressions 3 to provide a squeeze film effect that forms a highly load capability oil film. This expedience improves the transmission efficiency of the male and female screws 1 and 8 or avoids no oil film exhaustion on the sliding surfaces.
