DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPH FINISHING SYSTEM CONTAINING SCENE- BALANCED/BRIGHTENED DIGITAL PICTURE PROCESSING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a superior picture through the use of digital printing by generating a digital color picture in an optical printing gray level, processing the digital picture through the use of a scene balance algorithm and mapping the digital color picture balanced by using the characteristic curve of a hard copy medium. SOLUTION: A digital scanner 12 scans on the upper part a color film 14 and a digital color picture of a color picture frame 16 is generated. The digital picture which is partially sub-sampled by a scene balance algorithm is processed by a picture data manager 18 after it is converted into printing gray level. The balanced picture is mapped to the whole of a color printing paper characteristic curve, is brightened and processed by an indistinct masking algorithm and is digitally printed on color printing paper 22 by a printer 20.
