PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical transmission system and method capable of flexibly changing a bidirectional transmission capacity, corresponding to the transmission amount of two optical transmitter-receivers. SOLUTION: This system is provided with a first optical transmitter-receiver 1, a second optical transmitter-receiver 2, plural optical fibers 31-34 for connecting them, a first optical switch device 4 for selectively connecting the first optical transmitter-receiver 1 and the optical fibers 31-34, a second optical switch device 5 for selectively connecting the second optical transmitter-receiver 2 and the optical fibers 31-34, a first optical switch controller 6 and a second optical switch controller 7 for controlling the first optical switch device 4 and the second optical switch device 5 and a main controller 8 for controlling them. A main controller 8 decides the number of the plural optical fibers 31-34 to be used for the transmission of the first optical transmitter-receiver 1 and the second optical transmitter-receiver 2, in response to the transmission amount of the first optical transmitter-receiver 1 and the second optical transmitter- receiver 2. |
