FAULT PLACE ESTIMATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the observation time of an alarm without spoiling accuracy by representing a fault hypothesis as a time-series model according to an alarm propagation model and taking a fault diagnosis. SOLUTION: Respective devices (a) to (h) on a transmission side P0 is equipped with alarm generating devices. Respective multiplexers P1 to P7 are equipped with one alarm generating device (c) and respective demultiplexers P8 to P14 are equipped with two alarm generating devices (a) and (b). A detection delay is given to each node as a delay time from the fault occurrence of each device on a transmission line to alarm observation and propagation delays are given to respective links 1 to 29 to generate a fault tree wherein a temporal spread of the influence of a fault is described, thereby defining an alarm propagation model. According to the alarm propagation model, an evaluation function for estimating the fault place is determined and this evaluation function is used to estimate the fault hyphothesis matching observation data most.
