PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a guideline for developing an R-TM-B permanent magnet which exhibits high magnetic performance, particularly, a permanent magnet having a high coercive force. SOLUTION: In an R-TM-B permanent magnet, a magnetic phase composed mainly of an R2TM14B intermetallic compound (where, R and TM respectively represent a rare-earth element, including Y and a transition metal) in which a tetragonal crystal structure and a grain boundary phase containing an R-TM-O compound exist. In the grain boundary phase, the R-TM-O compound having a face-centered cubic crystal structure is precipitated near the boundary with the magnetic phase and the magnetic phase, and grain boundary phase are made to match with each other. The crystallomagnetic anisotropy of the magnetic phase is enhanced near the boundary. |
