PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the use efficiency of a servo track writer by the writing method for the tracking servo signal pattern of the magnetic disk drive which records and reproduces information on concentric tracks at a specific track pitch by a magnetic head. SOLUTION: The servo track writer which writes a tracking servo signal records only a 1st burst signal 8 and 2nd burst signal 9, and then the magnetic head of the magnetic disk drive itself reproduces the 1st burst signal 8 and 2nd burst signal 9, while the position of the magnetic head is controlled so that the level ratio of both the reproduced signals is a specific rate, a 3rd burst signal 10 and a 4th burst signal 11 are recorded by the magnetic head of the magnetic disk drive itself to improve the use efficiency of the servo track writer.
