PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator with high mechanical, chemical characteristics and less pinholes by forming a nonwoven fabric by fusing low melting point polyamide fibers and rayon fibers having high tensile strength, or low melting point polyamide fibers and high melting point polyamide fibers having high tensile strength. SOLUTION: Low melting point polyamide fibers are nylon fibers having a melting point of 190 deg.C or lower. As fibers fused with low melting point polyamide fibers and developing high tensile strength, rayon fibers having a fiber diameter of 5.0 deniers or less are used. A nonwoven fabric is manufactured by fusing 30 wt.% low melting point polyamide fibers with 70 wt.% rayon fibers with a paper machine in a wet process, heat treated with a calender to manufacture an alkaline battery separator having a thickness of 150 μm and a density of 0.40. In the standpoint of electrolyte retainability, the fibers of 5.0 deniers or less are selected. The low melting point nylon fibers are used as adhesive fibers, as the main fibers, nylon fibers having different fiber diameters are used, and by manufacturing the nonwoven fabrics with the paper machine in the wet process, high tensile strength can be obtained. |
