PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device constituted for performing expanded/ reduced display natural for human eyes so as not to suddenly display a detailed road network when continuously changing a reduced scale step by step in the map display of a car navigation system or the like. SOLUTION: This device is composed of a reduced scale instructing means 1 for instructing the reduced scale for the display picture of a map, map data storage means 2 as the set of map data units stored by reduced scales and stepless map display means 10 for acquiring the map data unit corresponding to the reduced scale instructed by the reduced scale instructing means 1 and the map data unit more detailed than the reduced scale from the map data storage means 2, plotting the road network of the map data unit more detailed than the reduced scale with thickness corresponding to the reduced scale and plotting the road network of the map data unit corresponding to the reduced scale and the other background while overlapping them. |
