PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an appreiator to clearly and easily judge the photographing conditions and the intention of a photographer at the photographing time and to pleasantly enjoy a film by displaying also a focus detection area in a camera used for photographing a film picture on a picture when the film picture is displayed. SOLUTION: A focus detection area in a camera is detected based on information recorded at the magnetic recording part of a film by the camera. Then, the focus detection area where a focusing action is executed by the camera at the photographing time is superposed on the film picture every film picture, figured and displayed (as the picture). For example, when an image is picked up by using an image pickup element whose effective part is constituted of K×L pixels, only two inside and outside rectangular frames of the focus detection areas AFP1 and AFP2 where the focusing is not executed, are displayed. But the part of the focus detection area AFP3 clamped by the both rectangular frames is colored with red and displayed in the area AFP3 where the focusing is executed.
