PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To devise a method for mounting a bar code sheet in such a manner that this sheet may be simply, easily and exactly fixed to a coated optical fiber and that the flawing of a bar code surface may be effectively prevented in an identification method by the bar code sheet. SOLUTION: This method for adding a coated fiber identification symbol of the coated optical fiber consists in putting the bar code sheet S on the coated optical fiber (f) longitudinally alongside the same, affixing the rear surface of the sheet to the coated optical fiber (f), putting a longitudinal score Y at a transparent plastic tube (t) of the bore smaller than the diameter of the coated optical fiber (f) to form a tube having a C shape in section, superposing this tube on the bar code printing surface of the sheet S, forcibly fitting and fixing the tube and the sheet and cutting the extra length portion D protruding from the score Y of the C-shaped tube of the sheet S.
