<p>(A) p-Hydroxy phenylhydrazones of general formula (I) R1 and R2 = H or halogen R3 = phenyl opt. substd. by one or two hydroxy, lower alkyl, alkoxy; or a furan-, thiophene-or pyridine residue (B) Salts of (I) with non-toxic physiologically acceptable bases. (I) have strong antibacterial activity esp. against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Bacterium proteus. They may be used as antibacterial additives in pharmaceutical-, cosmetic- or industrial products and may be used as local external antiseptics or for disinfecting wounds. They are also very suitable for disinfecting the mouth and throat. After administration they are excreted unaltered in the urine and render this bacteriostatic. They are esp. suitable for veterinary medicine.</p> |
