PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong a life, improve efficiency, reduce the operating voltage, and improve the degree of freedom in luminescent color by providing a semiconductor layer between at least a pair of electrodes, and containing an inorganic semiconductor material and an organic fluorescent material in the semiconductor layer. SOLUTION: An organic fluorescent material is doped in an inorganic semiconductor material having high stability, heat resistance and little aging deterioration to form a semiconductor layer 2 between electrodes 3, 4 connected with an AC power source AC. The degree of freedom in designing a luminescence wavelength is increased, the luminance and color can be easily adjusted, and an electrode with an unstable low-work function may not be used. An insulating layer of silicon oxide may be provided between the electrodes 3, 4 and the semiconductor layer 2. The inorganic semiconductor is preferably made of one or more kinds of AlN, GaN, ZnO, ZnS and AlSb having the electron affinity of 2.0 eV or above and the band gap of 1.5-4.0 eV, and one or more kinds of organic fluorescent materials such as alkynolinol and quinacridone are doped by 0.1-10 mol.% in the inorganic semiconductor.
