The drive unit uses a low-temp. superconductive electric motor, a low-temp. superconductive coil acting as an accumulator and an i.c. engine. The superconductive electric motor and the superconductive coil are both cooled by liquid hydrogen also used as the fuel for the i.c. engine. Pref. the vehicle is driven in town traffic by the electric motor supplied from the storage coil and photovoltaic cells, the i.c. engine being brought into operation for motorway driving with recharging of the storage coil in generator mode. ADVANTAGE - Optimum energy efficiency.
