Phthalocyanine compounds of Formula (1) have utility as colorants in inks for ink-jet printing, where Formula (1) represents: MvPc(COR<1>)4 in which: M represents a metal or H; Pc represents a phthalocyanine nucleus; R<1> represents OR<2>; or NR<3>R<4>; where R<2>, R<3> and R<4> independently represent H or optionally substituted C1-30carbyl; and v is the valence of Pc divided by the valence of M; provided that R<1> is other than amino.
