A cutter (26) with stamping section, extends over a peripheral section ( alpha ) of the roller (22), to cut, stamp or form the band (1) of sheet material during contact under pressure against the opposite roller (23). After this stamping cycle, and/or during roller rotation, the roller surfaces re-position the sheet at least once, spaced from it at (R-r) during an interval of alignment. Preferred features: Spacing of rotation axes (24, 25) of the rollers is held constant during stamping and straightening intervals. During this interval the band is advanced or retracted by a separate positioner (17). This feeds following positioning, to match the speed to that of the rollers. The positioner is programmed to repeat positioning. The band has printed marks read by a laser unit (20), enabling the positioner to place them against the cutting tool. During positioning a clamp (13) maintains band tension. Band edges are steered by a unit (12), correcting their fluctuation. Further band handling equipment is detailed. A variant based on the foregoing principles is also described.
