Assay for hydrogen peroxide and hydroperoxides comprises contacting a sample with a 4-( alpha -N-alkylhydrazino)-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole (I), a peroxidase and optionally a buffer and evaluating the reaction by fluorescence spectroscopy, mass spectrometry or ultraviolet/visible (UV/VIS) spectroscopy.
