A dispenser for adhesive tape, eg. masking tape for defining the edges of painted areas, has a tape reel (4) fitted onto a support (3) on the back of a flat slider (1). The tape is fed over a curved end of the slider and under the slider to press onto the work surface. The top edge of the curved guide cuts off the tape to leave a free end which has a fixed length to reach into the edge of the work surface. The adjacent part of the slider has protruding ends, equal to the cut end and has spirit levels (5,6) to enable the user to line correctly align the tape. The spirit levels can be angled to cover sloping edges. The tape reel is inverted to feed over the other end of the slider and the whole system is operated by a hand grip (2).
