The vibration data from the scanning system (1) is transmitted to the data processing system (6). In the processing system (6), from the amount of the vibration data, according to the known processes, vibration relevant characteristics, e.g. fundamental frequencies, amplitudes or phases of the speed (v) or the elongation (xi), partial resonances, vibration structures are separated, and these characteristics are evaluated according to specified criteria. The presence or the non existence of defects, e.g. cracks, material fatigue or delamination in the body (3) being tested, is identified and a defect signal (7) is transmitted.
