The shaft of the swab is made of paper and has ends of lesser thickness around which absorbent cotton wool is attached. The swabs are obtained by rolling up a paper having machine-cut wavy edges having at least 2 maxima and 2 minima, these wavy edges providing the thickness difference at the ends.
