The sensor has a solid electrode body with two operating electrodes and a heating element (17). The heater element is next to an electrode (13) at earth potential, to heat this electrode. The other sensor electrode (12) is at a negative potential. A sensor operating voltage (US) is applied across the two electrodes. The electrodes are encased in a ceramic body (11) with the heater (17) embedded in an electric insulator.
