<p>A method of treating a bearing surface (12) of a component (10) formed from a base material is described. The method comprises the steps of bringing the surface (12) into proximity with rollers (14, 16), the rollers and surface are then moved relative to each other with a contact force in the range 0.25 to 20 Newtons per mm of roller contact width, and particles of a material having a hardness higher than that of the base material are introduced between the rollers and the surface such that at least some of the hard particles are forced into the base material of the surface by the rollers.</p> |
