IMPROVEMENTS IN DIESEL BURNERS

A liquid fuel burner (40) includes a shroud (42) having a top (52) and a bottom (54). There is an opening near the bottom. A mantle (90) extends across the opening in the shroud. There is a liquid fuel injector (80) within the shroud (42) near the top (52). An air inlet (64, 66) extends into the shroud near the top. A fuel/air mixture expelled through the mantle (90) is ignited exterior to the mantle (90). This heats the shroud (42) and the fuel/air mixture within the shroud (42) prior to combustion.
