The invention relates to an air bearing (1) for a high peripheral speed rotational shaft (2) of a motor spindle for driving a processing tool, comprising a shaft (2) with bearing surfaces (3, 5, 6) and counter-bearing surfaces (9, 11) of bearing elements (8, 10) fitted with several bearing pockets (13). The bearing pockets (13) are connected to the compressed air source by means of holes (14, 15) in the bearing elements (8, 10). The bearing elements (8, 10) are made of graphite, whereby functioning of the air bearing (1) is not impaired by a short-term overload. |
