The roller with an adjustable bend, where different pressures are applied in zones to the rotating mantle, has a carrier (23) which can be rotated in relation to the fixed head section (32) between two operating settings, where the working direction of the mantle supports is varied by a shift angle. A rotary valve (44) is formed between the carrier (23) and the head section (32) which, in the first setting, links each of the channel sections (40,41) at the head side with a channel section (45-47) at the carrier side. In the second setting, another carrier channel section is linked. The control (51) has a change-over unit (53) which, in the second setting, alters the zonal assembly of the outlets (52) from the layout for the first setting. The rotary valve (44) is formed by a journal (43) at the carrier and a cylindrical drilling (42) to hold it at the head section (32). The head section (32) has connections (38) at the end side (37), linked to the cylindrical drilling (42) by an axial drilling (40) and a radial drilling (41). The carrier (23) shift angle is 180 deg , through rotation by a motor (35). The roller has at least four pressure zones or at least 10 zones. The head section (32) is prevented from rotating by a torque support (33), and a release lock (34) prevents carrier (23) rotation. The roller is placed between two counter rollers, to form two calender nips selectively between them. The carrier can have a third operating setting, where the rotary valve is linked to an additional channel section at the carrier side, while the change-over unit sets the zone assembly accordingly.
