A reader outside the vehicle contactlessly retrieves data from a memory on the vehicle. The memory is located on an information carrier with a transmitting/receiving antenna, the carrier being sealed in a protective container to form a preassembled module (20). The container material is temperature stable and transparent to data signals. Spacers are provided inside the container to separate the information carrier from the walls. The module is fixed to a preformed but unfinished part (10) of the vehicle, and remains attached until the final manufacturing phase of the vehicle, and possibly during its use until it is recycled.
