The device has a socket for fixing a cutting tool whereby the socket is guided along the tool according to the shape of the blade to be sharpened. The guide comprises a linear guide (2) for straight edge blades and a rotary guide (5) for curved edge blades. The linear guide has a slide carriage (4) moved along an axis and fitted with a rotary guide which can have an associated locking unit (6,9,10).
