The invention relates to a golf ball made of an at least partly transparent material and comprising a luminescent device arranged inside it. To ensure that the luminescent device remains functional for long periods the inventio n provides for said device to consist of at least one light-emitting diode (2) , at least one battery (3), electrical or electronic regulating or control elements (4) -nd a switch (5) which following a hit or a radio signal activates the luminescent device for a specified period. The luminescent device is encapsulated by injection moulding with a thick, elastic, transparent, spheroid jacket (6) made of a plastic material melting at low temperatures, for example below 160 ~C and said jacket (6) is enveloped by a t least one other layer which forms the outer shell (7) of the golf ball and i s made of a transparent plastic material which can be deformed at higher temperatures, for example above 160 ~C.
