Comamonas testosteroni MC1 strain (DSM 12392), is new. An Independent claim is also included for the microbial decontamination of the following materials and water contaminated with products of phenoxyalkanoic acid herbicide manufacture: 2,4-dichlorophenoxybutyric acid (2,4-DB), 4-chlor-2-methylphenoxybutyric acid (MCPB), 2,4-dichlorophenoxypropionic acid (2,4-DP), 4-chlor-2-methylphenoxypropionic acid (MCPP), 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), 4-chlor-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid (MCPA), 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) and/or 4-chloro-2-methylphenol (MCP), by degrading 2,4-DP, MCPP, 2,4-D, MCPA, DCP and/or MCP with Comamonas testosteroni MC1 under aerobic conditions at 4 - 38 deg C and pH 6 - 11.5.
