Use of a synergistic herbicidal combination including a glufosinate- or glyphosate-type or imidazolinone herbicide to control weeds in sugar beet

A combination of herbicides (I) and (II) is used to control weeds in sugar beet crops, where (I) is a glufosinate- or glyphosate herbicide or an imidazolinone and (II) comprises one or more compounds other than (I) itself. A combination of herbicides (I) and (II) is used to control weeds in sugar beet crops, provided that the crops are tolerant of (I) and (II), optionally in the presence of safeners, where: (I) is selected from: (A1) compounds of formula (Ia) and (Ib) and their esters and salts: Z = OH, NHCH(CH3)CONHCH(CH3)COOH or NHCH(CH3)CONHCH(CH2CH(CH3)2)COOH. (A2) imidazolinones; and (II) comprises one or more compounds selected from: (B1) herbicides of type (I) other than (I) itself; (B2) herbicides with both foliar and predominantly soil activity against monocot and dicot weeds; (B3) herbicides predominantly active against dicot weeds; (B4) herbicides with predominantly foliar activity that can be used against monocot weeds; and (B5) herbicides with both foliar and soil activity that can be used against monocot weeds. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling weeds in tolerant sugar beet crops, comprising applying (I) and (II), together or separately, pre- and/or post-emergence, to the plants, parts of the plants, seeds or soil; (2) a herbicidal composition comprising (I) and (II); (3) use of the composition of (2) for regulating the growth of sugar beet plants; (4) use of the composition of (2) for modifying the yield or contents of sugar beet plants.
