Gasification of carbon-containing substances, particularly waste materials that are suitably conditioned, optionally pretreated takes place inside a gasification apparatus in a mixed flow being formed by a counter-current, direct and transverse streaming. By making use of an obliquely arranged grate (1) that is performed as a travelling stepped grate a portion of gasification material is fed and at the grate (1) bottom end ash is discharged. Heating gas exhaust from the gasification apparatus is situated above the highest step of the grate (1) and namely on the side opposite to side inlet (2) of the gasification material. The proposed gasification apparatus is provided with a two-layer insulating and cooling system (7, 8, and 9), whereby air is employed as the insulating and cooling medium. The control of the gasification process is carried out in dependence on detected temperature profile inside the gasification apparatus, whereby the position of the main gasification zone is controlled by rate of discharging ash from the gasification apparatus, gasification temperature is controlled by the supply of gasification material and output of the gasification apparatus is controlled by setting width of the gasification zone. Produced heating gas is preferably utilized for producing electric power in a working machine. Combustion products are preferably purified by means of a filter with activated coke. |
