The aim of the present invention is to replace palladium and tin used during working procedure preceding chemical coating of a polymeric fibrous material with metal with a less critical materials. The aim is achieved by making use of a cation exchange material with cation exchange capacity ranging from 0.5 to 6 mg-eq/g, whereby prior metal coating the polymeric material is saturated with nickel ions and by subsequent reacting with aqueous solution of an alkali metal boron hydride.
