The spool allows for shrinkage during heating by being resilient: longitudinal grooves, equidistantly spaced on the periphery, divide the spool surface into small deformable herring-bone shaped sections, connected to the rim by bridge elements. The cylindrical spool bore facilitates easy fixing to the mandrel.
