The invention relates to the preparation of two novel nucleic acids -Hc1 and Hc2- which are homologous to known DEAD box proteins, which correspond to RNA helicases, and which can be obtained from ciliates. The invention also relates to the insertion of the novel nucleic acids into suited target cells using recombinant DNA technologies, and to the use thereof for regulating transcription and translation. In addition, the invention relates to the in-vitro or in-vivo transcription of the novel nucleic acids for producing novel proteins and to the use thereof in treatment and diagnosis.
