PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving rack device which securely acts on an earthquake and has a function to secure a passage width so that a man in the passage is prevented from being caught between racks moved by the quake. SOLUTION: This moving rack device is equipped with a projecting/back- drawing member 4 which is disposed on a top member 31a of a rack 2 and enable to project and be drawn back in the neighboring rack direction, an energizing means 5 to energize the projecting/back-drawing member 4 into the projecting direction, a lock mechanism 6 to keep the projecting/back-drawing member 4 constrained at a stand-by position P not to disturb the movement of the rack 2, a lock releasing mechanism 7 to release the constrained condition by the lock mechanism 6 when quaking by an earthquake is detected, and a detente mechanism 8 to hold the projecting/back-drawing member projecting to a projecting position Q which enables the projecting/back-drawing member released from the constraint by the lock mechanism 6 to abut on a neighboring rack 2 at the projecting position Q.
