PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a thermal transfer ribbon with a spontaneously generating silicone resin back film. SOLUTION: A thermal transfer ribbon is induced from an aqueous coating material for which a separate back film is not required to be applied on a base, and a back film 125 is generated spontaneously on the surface of the base when an untreated surface 122 of the base is brought into contact with a separate section on the upper face of a thermal transfer layer 12. The thermal transfer ribbon generating the back film generated spontaneously is composed of a flexible base and a thermal transfer layer containing silicone resin and a water-soluble silicone block copolymer containing blocks formed of silicone resin and a water-soluble polymer. When the untreated surface of the base is wound on the ribbon so as to be brought into contact with a separate section on the upper face of the thermal transfer layer, the water-soluble silicone block polymer is made to migrate to the upper face of the thermal transfer layer to generate a back film on the opposite face of the base. For the purpose of migration, as an actual example, both of the water-soluble silicone block copolymer and a hydrophobic siloxane liquid or gum are used. |
