PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To urge the user to conduct proper countermeasures by informing the user effectively of occurrence of a communication error based on subscription/non-subscription to a number display service due to a fault of a network or a terminal. SOLUTION: The terminal discriminates subscription/non-subscription to a number display contract at the arrival of an incoming call, and when the terminal detects a call signal before transmission of a primary reply signal regardless of the subscription having been contracted, the terminal displays and outputs information denoting it. Concretely, the terminal devotes itself to the reception of the V.23 for a prescribed time after the primary reply, and it transits a transmission sequence of a reception end signal when the terminal can receive the V.23 and it conducts display and output for an inquiry of a manufacture. When the terminal cannot receive the V.23, the terminal transits to transmission of an initial identification signal, and if it detects a facsimile protocol signal from an opposite machine, it conducts display and output for inquiry of a network provider.
