PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance charge/discharge cycle characteristics of a hydrogen storage alloy, to enhance initial discharge characteristics of the hydrogen storage alloy electrode and to suppress increase in internal pressure of a battery in charging by including coagulant formed by coagulating hydrogen storage alloy primary particles through a metal layer in hydrogen storage alloy powder used in a hydrogen storage alloy electrode. SOLUTION: The initial discharge capacity and gas absorbing performance of a battery are increased by suppressing surface oxidation caused by decrease in exposed surface and drop in surface energy of a hydrogen storage alloy in which part of primary particle surface is covered with a metal layer, and by drop in electric resistance between primary particles. Mixed powder of coagulant of primary particles having particle size <=25 μm and primary particles having a particle size of 25-100 μm can also be used. Coagulant of primary particles having a particle size <=100 μm can also be used and make a process simple. The metal layer is constituted with at least one selected from a group comprising Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Pd, Ag, In, Sn, and Sb, and mixed with metal powder in a prescribed ratio, then heated for interposing. |
