PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a normal remote diagnosis of an end office corresponding to a key number by transmitting the corresponding telephone number to a 2nd end office where the setting of its telephone number is not decided via a center station to set the telephone number and then calling the key number via the center station to start the remote diagnostic communication. SOLUTION: If the telephone number of its own station is not included in the pre-procedure signal that is sent from a facsimile equipment (No in step 2), the setting data are acquired from an SRAM of the facsimile equipment against a 2nd end office (step 3). The telephone number of the 2nd end office is set to the setting data (step 4) and then the calling is performed by means of the telephone number of the 2nd end office. Thus, the communication is performed in a communication procedure similar to that of a remote diagnostic transmission mode to transmit the telephone number of the 2nd end office to the facsimile equipment (step 5). As a result, the telephone number of the 2nd end office is written into the SRAM of the facsimile equipment.
