NEW CHITOSAN DERIVATIVE AND ITS USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new chitosan derivative capable of producing a product comprising a chitosan component neither readily eluting nor falling off by introducing a specific polymerizable unsaturated group to a part or the whole of glucan structure of chitosan. SOLUTION: This derivative is a compound in which a part of the whole of (1→4)-2-amino-2-deoxy-β-D-glucan structure of chitosan is substituted with a structure of formula I [R is a group containing a polymerizable carbon-carbon unsaturated group, preferably a group of the formula; -CONH-(CH2)n-OR1 (R1 is acryloyl or methacryloyl; (n) is 1-6)] such as a compound of formula II. The compound is obtained by a method for reacting a chitosan with an unsaturated group-containing isocyanate compound (e.g. an addition reaction product of a part of an isocyanate group of a common organic polyisocyanate or its dimer or trimer and a hydroxy group-containing unsaturated acid ester compound or the like) or an unsaturated group-containing acid chloride [e.g. (meth)acrylic acid chloride or the like], etc.
