PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction lining to be a friction lining used in a friction clutch, especially in the friction clutch of an automobile and improve property profile, increase especially heat resistance, and thus transmit further high torque at a given lining surface. SOLUTION: This friction lining for a torque transmitting device, especially for a friction clutch, is formed of a glass or glass ceramic inorganic composite material and the composite material comprises a glass or glass ceramic base material, inorganic reinforced fibers, and one or a plurality of ceramic, glassy, or metallic fillers.
