PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high yield production method for 2-butyloctanoic diacid having high purity. SOLUTION: This method comprises mixing 1 mol 7-cyanoundecanoic acid and/or 2-buthyl-7-cyanoundecanoic acid with 1-20 mol alkaline compound, carrying out a hydrolysis at 60-200 deg.C, acid treatment at <=pH 8.5 and 15-100 deg.C by adding an acid and removing the resultant salt precipitated in the acid treatment.
