PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a sublimable adamantanol in high purity by distilling and purifying a specific adamantanol derivative and then, converting the resultant product into the sublimable adamantanol. SOLUTION: This sublimable admantanol is obtained in high purity by reacting (A) a sublimable adamantanol (alkoxide) of formula I (one of R1 and R2 is OH and the other is H or a 1-6C alkyl; R3 is H or a 1-6C alkyl) (e.g. 2-methyl-2-adamantanol) with (B) an alcohol-reactive compound or alkoxide- reactive compound, and distilling and purifying the resultant meltable adamantanol derivative of formula II (one of R4 and R5 is a lower alkylcarbonyloxy, lower alkyloxymethoxy, 2-tetrahydropyranyloxy or the like, and the other is H or a 1-6C alkyl; R6 is H or a 1-6C alkyl), and then, converting the just above project into the sublimable adamantanol of formula I.
