PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent thin-film elements from being excessively ground by subjecting the surfaces where the magnetic gap parts of the thin-film elements are exposed to lapping and polishing in an approximately fixed direction from a base part side toward a thin-film element side. SOLUTION: Plural pieces of slider bars B are mounted by means of a tacky adhesive material having flexibility and elasticity so as to comply with the convex curvilinear surface of a mounting surface 12a of a mounting jig 12. The surfaces where the respective magnetic gap parts of the thin-film elements 1 of the slider bard B are exposed, are so disposed as to come into contact with the polishing surface 11a of a polishing surface plate 11. The mounting jig 12 applies a load on the slider bars B from above to press the slider bars to the polishing surface 11a. The polishing surface plate 11 is rotated at a proper speed and the mounting jig 12 mounted with the slider bars B is not rotated and is held in an approximately stop state. The polishing is executed while a lubricating liquid is supplied to the polishing surface 11a. The lapping and polishing are executed in the specified direction from the base part side where the hardness is high, thereby, which the generation of a difference in level between the base parts and the thin-film elements is suppressed. |
