PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blocking mechanism for belt retractors that needs no synchronization and suffers less abrasion by frequent operation. SOLUTION: This blocking mechanism for seat belt retractors comprises a belt reel 10 rotatably mounted in a frame 12, a retchet teeth 16 mounted on the frame 12, a ratchet pawl 24 placed on the belt reel 10 to cooperate with the ratchet teeth 16, and an inertia disk 20 used as a sensor element for detecting belt webs. The inertia disk 20 is rotatable relative to the belt reel 10. The ratchet pawl 24 is rotatably mounted on the inertia disk 20. The belt reel 10 has an operation element 26a engaging the ratchet pawl 24. When the belt reel 10 is rotated relative to the inertia disk 20 for operation, the operation element 26a brings the ratchet pawl 24 into engagement with the ratchet teeth 16.
