<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display good in holding characteristics, reduced in feed-through voltage and excellent in display uniformity and reliability while keeping aperture ratio. SOLUTION: This active matrix type liquid crystal display device of a lateral electric field has two transparent insulating substrates placed opposite to each other, and on its first substrate, a plurality of scanning lines 502, a plurality of signal lines 103, thin film transistors 503 arranged in the vicinity of each of intersections, common electrodes 106 extended nearly parallel with the scanning lines and having a plurality of comb-shaped projecting parts, pixel electrodes 104 formed on gaps between neighboring comb-shaped projecting parts and a first alignment layer formed on the upper side of the electrodes 104 via a protecting insulating layer are provided, also on its second substrate, a black matrix having openings confronted with pixel electrodes and a second alignment layer are provided. In the display device, dielectric 230 with a specified dielectric constant are arranged inside substrates in regions held between the comb-shaped projecting parts of the common electrodes and the pixel electrodes as seen from a direction normal to the substrates.</p> |
