PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a train number indicator for use with train route control systems that displays train numbers in color in a manner free from modifications to the hardware of existent train route control systems, and provide a train number display method for use in such train route control systems using the indicators. SOLUTION: This train number indicator comprises a window decoder 11 for deciphering and outputting red and green light information from input information from a central processing unit 61 and the like, a train number display part 14 including five dot matrix modules 15a to 15e each having a matrix of LEDs 16 having red and green chips, red display drivers 12a to 12e, and green display drivers 13a to 13e. A display window 57 displays a train number by red light, green light or a proper combination of them.
